FIELDWORK

A typical tour of duty with an Anti Poaching team
By David S Gill, Chairman, The Sumatran Tiger Trust.

As evening draws close it is time to set up camp for the night. The teams have named this camping area Air Puthi, which means White Water. It is so far from civilisation and with only a tarpaulin to sleep on this truly an experience never forgotten.

We are surrounded by the dark and all the forest creatures from spiders, rhinos, elephants and tigers, as well as snakes that can eat a man, along with hundreds of other species which make up this intricate web of life.
