One of ceremony which often conducted by hinterland society is ceremony of medication or also called Kemantan. Kemantan generally conducted if a lot of ill of society citizen. This ceremony led by 7 shaman people and minimum one shaman. Generally this ceremony conducted after harvest season, this matter relate to substances that is needed for ceremony.
In this ceremony all original society join in and get medication and also contribute a number of food-stuff of according to ability of each. The food-stuff will be cooked and eaten also by society.
Condition of Kemantan:
a. There Is shaman of Kemantan
b. There Is Dedayu (like assistant of shaman)
c. There is Penginang (have to woman)
There are some of activity in kemantan ceremony:
First day/night: to tomb of lead of customary to pray (preparation for ceremony) (pictured)
Second Night: main ceremony all night (in this night the shaman is unconscious and may not photographed ). In this night activity is:
1. Dubalang (the Shaman which unconscious try to grab some object which holded
by his assistant and if the shaman can take the object the assistant will be fine
because its mean the medicine will not good.)
2. Beringin ( the shaman try to catch Dubalang like people want to catch fish use
fish net. And believe if the shaman can catch the Dubalang , shaman will kill
the Dubalang like people kill fish.)
3. Serampang (Shaman try to catch Dubalang like people want to catch fish use
the gaff, and belive will kill dubalang if he can catch).
4. Pesilih (disease thrown to sky)
5. Timbangan (like weighting machine. Shaman curing people on the weighting )
6. Buai (shaman curing people on the oscillation).
