A typical tour of duty with an Anti Poaching team By David S Gill, Chairman, The Sumatran Tiger Trust.

Way Kanan is situated about 15km into the depths of the forest, it is the base camp for the operations. The team sets off early before the heat of the day, Apri is our PHKA team leader and camera specialist (second from left) and Sri (second from right) is the team leader for the tour. Suprianto is our forest policeman (left) and the only one armed with a weapon against the potentially well armed poachers. That's me next to Sri.
The trail is thick with vegetation and rivers are deep and fast flowing. Natural crossing points have to be found and then after around three hours of walking it is time for a rest and refreshments.
