Datai village is almost untouched by the modern world, the only visual connection is the clothes they have bartered for down the river. the lifestyle is very simple and unchanged in hundreds of years.
The people have never had any form of education except from the traditional ways. this is the way we hoped it would stay but unfortunately the illegal loggers, illegal traders and poachers tried to educate the people in the illegal ways to take advantage of them.
The STCP programme decided that because of this influence it was very important that we educated them in the ways of conservation and protection of their lifestyle and future.
STT has provided funds to supply a teacher and a classroom for the village. they can now read and write and calculate for the first time. we hope that this education will allow them to make informed decisions about their future.

In return for assistance with healthcare and education the Village has decided to supply a building for our staff to rest and cook and use as a base in the middle of the National Park. They have also supplied young men from the village to work on anti Poaching Patrols, this gives us a unique advantage of local knowledge and expertise.
